Qutb Shahi Dynasty ruled Hyderabad from 1518 to 1687. The Qutb Shahi architecture followed classical Persian architecture featuring domes and colossal arches.

Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah, the founder of Hyderabad built the most important monuments- Charminar and Mecca Masjid - both a fine examples of Qutb Shahi architecture. Golconda fort built in the 16th century is the oldest surviving Qutb Shahi structure. The Charminar, Golconda Fort and the Qutb Shahi tombs, another beautiful Qutb Shahi monument,  are considered to be monuments of national importance in India.
